Boots starts COVID-19 vaccinations

From today Boots UK is offering, those invited by letter, to receive the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine at six of its chemists.

The chemists in Halifax, Macclesfield, Widnes, Guildford, Edgware and Telford will be the first to administer the vaccine, with an aim to vaccinate 1,000 patients each week at the Halifax site alone.

Staff training has been taking place, to help deliver the vaccine, with the centre due to open today.

The news comes as the Government’s lead vaccine super centres have opened this week nationwide.

At 4:00PM on 13th January 2,639,309 people had received the first dose, and 428,232 the second dose, according to the latest government statistics.

This makes 352,737 having received the first dose of any vaccine between 7:48PM on Monday 11th January and 4:00PM Wednesday 13th January, approximately 22,046 an hour, based on an eight-hour window each day, or 8,016 an hour, when calculating on each hour between the two recorded statistics.

Seb James, Managing Director of Boots UK and ROI, said: “Boots has already conducted over two million COVID-19 tests on behalf of the NHS and now we are proud to play our part in vaccinating the nation. Our vaccination sites are clean, clinical environments, in accessible, convenient locations, like high streets, and we have extensive experience in vaccination services, having carried out over a million flu vaccinations in this winter flu season alone.”
