New Chair announced by Sheffield Health and Social Care FT

A new Chair of the Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust has been named, with Sharon Mays set to join the organisation in October.

Sharon will replace the outgoing Mike Potts as Chair. Mike, who has been acting as Interim Chair since July, will complete his fixed-term appointment period at the end of September.

Sharon’s appointment as Chair was confirmed by the trust’s Council of Governors at their meeting in August. She has a background in practising law and previously held the role of Chair at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.

Sharon Mays said of her appointment: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the role of Chair of Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. I feel honoured to be given the chance to support service users in Sheffield with great care in mental health services, learning disabilities and substance misuse. I have a real interest in service user and carer experiences, so I am looking forward to hearing their stories and ensuring they influence the way we work in the future.

“I am excited about getting to know the teams too and am passionate about staff health and wellbeing. I am also keen to get to know our governors and work with them to help shape our services so they can be even better. Under Mike’s leadership, the trust made great strides in the improvement work, a huge achievement against a backdrop of all the challenges that coronavirus has brought over the past 18 months. I am ready to continue this improvement work, there is still a lot to do, and I am looking forward to getting started.”

In other news, Sheffield Health and Social Care also received its CQC inspection report in mid-August and was rated as “Requires Improvement.”
