North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust and Kent and Medway ICB appoint new chairs

Mark Lam has been appointed as the new Chair of North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, with the outgoing Chair set to join the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB).

Current incumbent, Cedi Frederick, who officially became the Chair at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust in October 2019, following a few months in an interim role, is stepping down to become the new Chair of Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board and the Independent Chair of the London Vaccine Legacy and Health Inequalities Programme.

The trust has set up a digital leaving card for Cedi, who it credits with leading the board through the pandemic, championing diversity by supporting staff networks and being ‘instrumental’ in efforts to engage with the local community.

Cedi Frederick, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Chair and I am proud of what everyone at North Mid has achieved. I have had the pleasure of working with people across the Trust, and in Enfield and Haringey, whose passion, dedication and commitment to improve lives for local people makes me confident that North Mid will continue to go from strength to strength. I wish Mark Lam well in his new role”.

Mark will take up his new position at North Mid from 30 October 2021, after stepping down from his current position as Chair of the East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT). He will, however, retain his separate role as Chair of Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, to which he was appointed in February of this year.

Until a succession plan has been determined at ELFT, Mark will remain in his post and be supported in his role by the Vice Chair, Eileen Taylor.

Mark, who was appointed as ELFT chair in June 2020, said: “I have very much enjoyed my time with the trust and will be sad to leave ELFT.

“ELFT is an extremely capable and effective trust that lives up to its outstanding reputation with its culture of care and continuous improvement. I am absolutely certain that this will continue…meanwhile I will be around for a while longer to be make sure things are handed over effectively.”

On his new role at North Mids, Mark stated: “It is a privilege to be joining North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust as Chair. I know I join at a pivotal time for healthcare and I want to thank everyone at the trust for all they have done for local people.

“I’m excited to work with the leadership team, getting to know the wonderful staff across the trust and meeting members of the local community who use its services. Together, we can build on North Mid’s strengths and continue [to] make a real difference to the lives of people living in Enfield and Haringey.”

Sir David Sloman, Regional Director of the NHS in London, added: “Mark Lam will bring a tremendous amount of experience and expertise to North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust and I’d like to congratulate him on his new appointment.

“I’d also like to congratulate Cedi Frederick on his new leadership role with Kent and Medway ICS and look forward to continuing to work with him on the vaccination programme and addressing health inequalities in London.”

It’s been a year of change for North Mids, as the trust also announced the appointment of Dr Nnenna Osuji as its new Chief Executive, in April.
