New medical directors appointed at Barts Health

Barts Health NHS Trust has appointed four new Medical Directors.  

The appoints follow a competitive process to replace the current individuals in post, including Heather Noble, Simon Harrod and Edward Rowland who will leave after six years of service, as well as Andrew Kelso who will leave the trust to become Medical Director at NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board.  

The Barts Health appointments include:  

Newham – Dr Liat Sarner 

Dr Sarner is the current Deputy Medical Director at Newham Hospital and is also a Sexual Health Consultant.  

St Bartholemew’s – Dr Andrew Wragg 

Dr Wragg is a Consultant Cardiologist based at St Bartholemew’s Hospital, as well as having extensive experience working at The Royal London Hospital. 

The Royal London – Dr Malik Ramadhan 

Dr Ramadhan is the current Divisional Director and Clinical Board Chair for Emergency Medicine and Trauma and has extensive experience within senior leadership roles throughout the trust.  

Whipps Cross: Dr Remi Odejinmi  

Dr Odenjinmi is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) and the Director of Inclusion.  

Alistair Chesser, Group Chief Medical Officer, commented on the departure of the medical directors: “During their tenure, the medical leadership in all of our hospitals has flourished. They have overseen, with our excellent directors of nursing, huge improvements in our clinical governance and the quality and safety of care we provide to our patients has improved significantly throughout our organisation.  

“Alongside this they have provided strong and supportive professional leadership of our doctors. At no time has this been more apparent and important than during the pandemic. 

“I thank them for their superb leadership over such a long period of time and wish them all well in their future endeavours.”
