Barts Health and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals appoints new Group CEO

Barts Health NHS Trust and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust have appointed a new Group Chief Executive Officer.  

Shane DeGaris, deputy CEO, Barts Health, has been chosen for the role and will begin his duties in August 2022.  

Having experience within medical leadership roles, Shane has previously served as CEO of Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and has held several executive director posts across London trusts, as well as participating in the NHS London Next Generation Chief Executive programme. 

Jacqui Smith, Chair in Common, commented on Shane’s new appointment: “Shane’s appointment as the new Group CEO across the two organisations will provide stable and effective leadership for both at this crucial time.  

“We already have strong local leadership through the hospital CEOs at Barts Health, and a permanent trust CEO at BHRUT. They will be accountable for maintaining robust links with our communities and partners so together we provide the best possible care for our patients.” 

Dorset HealthCare University appoints new Acting Chief Executive Officer

Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust has appointed a new Acting Chief Executive Officer. 

Dawn Dawson, Director of Nursing, Therapies and Quality, has been chosen for the role.  

A veteran healthcare professional of more than 30 years, Dawn has played a key role in developments at the trust, in which she was involved in setting up Dorset’s COVID-19 mass vaccination centre ran at the Bournemouth International Centre.

Commenting on her new role, Dawn said: “I’m absolutely delighted and honoured to take on the role of Acting Chief Executive. As we head towards summer and the pressures of the pandemic finally start to ease, there is so much for us to look forward to. 

“I will keep our focus on improving the quality of care we provide. Our Trust is filled with talented, dedicated people, and the fantastic way we have responded to the challenges of the past couple of years gives me enormous confidence our services will continue to evolve and flourish.”

Staffordshire and Stoke ICB appoints new Chief People Officer and Chief Digital Officer

Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB) has appointed a new Chief People Officer and Chief Digital Officer.  

Chris Ibell, Chief Digital Information Officer, Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT), and Alex Brett, Director of People, MPFT, have been chosen for the roles.  

Neil Carr, Chief Executive, commented on the appointments: “Whilst the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent system will gain hugely from the wealth of experience and insight they will bring to their ICB roles, MPFT will also continue to benefit from Alex and Chris remaining integral members of the Trust Board.” 

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals appoints new Director of Strategy and Transformation

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has appointed a new Director of Strategy and Transformation.  

Steve Christian, Chief Integration Officer, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, has been selected for the role.  

Having served as Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust, Steve brings an abundance of experience to the role and will work with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals to maintain and improve on care provided to the local community.  

Steve said: “I am delighted and humbled to have joined the Trust at such an exciting and important time. To those who I have had the pleasure to meet in my first few weeks, I’d like to thank you for the warm and hearty welcome.” 

The Tavistock and Portman FT appoints new Chair

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust has appointed a new Chair.  

Following confirmation of selection by the Trust’s Council of Governors, John Lawlor, Chief Executive of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust, will fill the Chair position.  

John said on his new role: “I am very excited at the opportunity to be joining the Tavistock and Portman as Chair. The Trust has a long and distinguished role in the development of mental health services and training in this country and internationally.

Paul Burstow, the outgoing Chair, added: “It has been a privilege to have served as Chair of such an iconic organisation for the past six and half years.
