Yorkshire Ambulance Service announces new chief executive

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust has announced the appointment of its new chief executive, with Peter Reading taking on the role.

Peter has been acting as interim chief exec since June 2023 and joined the trust from Northern Lincolnshire and Google, where he served as chief executive from 2017.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service has shared a number of Peter’s achievements throughout his career, including overseeing the design of a private finance initiative deal for University College Hospital as chief executive officer, and merging three trusts as CEO of University Hospitals of Leicester where the resultant trust “achieved the highest rating of three stars (former Commission for Health Improvement ratings) for five years running.”

Peter comments: “Despite the challenging operational pressures we face, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first seven months at the trust and will continue to progress the implementation of our new strategy and provide the very best services we can for our patients and local communities.”

Chair Martin Havenhand adds: “On behalf of the Trust Board and our partners, I would like to congratulate Peter on his appointment and look forward to working with him in the coming years. His extensive NHS leadership experience in complex and challenging organisations is already proving incredibly valuable to the trust.”
