World Health Organisation publishes global COVID-19 tracking dashboard

The World Health Organisation has launched a tracking dashboard to show every country affected by COVID-19.

COVID-19 fatalities outside of ‘at risk’ groups

At the weekend, Areema Nasreen, a nurse at Walsall Manor Hospital in the West Midlands was admitted to intensive care after contracting coronavirus.

It was reported that the NHS nurse has no underlying health conditions and does not fall into the ‘at risk’ bracket.

NHSX launches new funding for innovators providing social care or mental health support

NHSX has launched a new programme to call for innovators to apply for funding of up to £25k that can support the elderly, vulnerable and self-isolating during COVID-19.

The funding is aimed at helping innovations in the community, such as remote social care, optimising staffing in care and volunteering sectors and supporting mental health services.

COVID-19: The Highs and Lows of the NHS Healthcare Worker

NHS staff have been consistently labelled ‘essential staff’ during the COVID-19 crisis.

Recent reports of workers with bruised faces from wearing of PPE for long periods, to exponentially increased risk of COVID-19 infection.

World Health Organisation launches WhatsApp chatbot to support COVID-19 pandemic

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has launched a chatbot to be made available to millions of people through WhatsApp.

The chatbot will provide trusted information on the COVID-19 situation through a messaging service in collaboration with Facebook and WhatsApp.

UK health and care workforce given free open access to COVID-19 e-learning programme

HEE has developed an e-learning programme in response to COVID-19.

The pandemic has spurred the creation of the programme which will be given to all those working in the NHS, the independent sector and social care.

Including in the programme are key materials to help workers respond to coronavirus.

Daily SMS to be sent to most vulnerable

A new SMS service has launched today by NHSX, NHS Digital, NHS Business Services Authority and the Behavioural Insights Team to communicate to those considered most threatened by COVID-19.

Daily text messages will be sent to these people identified by the NHS to protect themselves for at least 12 weeks.

NHS Nightingale hospital to open next week in fight against COVID-19

Thousands of patients infected with coronavirus will receive support from new hospital NHS Nightingale.

The new hospital will be ready for use from next week.

USA developers launch USA Covid Near You tracking tool

The tool created by epidemiologists and software developers at Harvard, Boston Children’s Hospital and a group of volunteers from across the technology industry is called Covid Near You.

It uses crowdsourced data to visualise maps to help citizens and public health agencies identify current and potential hotspots for the recent pandemic coronavirus.

Universities working with HEE to identify students willing to work in the NHS

Due to the demand on NHS services, HEE is working with universities to recruit students willing to work.

Mark Radford, Chief Nurse, Health Education England, & Deputy Chief Nursing Officer of England, has contacted nursing course providing universities.

Cera Care to create 10,000 new jobs

Cera Care, a technology enabled home care company has announced it plans to create 10,000 new jobs, adding to its current 2,000 employees.

The technology-enabled home care provider uses digital and data analytics to improve elderly care services.

Through the app the company would previously deliver over 10,000 visits per day and a new care session every 10 seconds – with now the services to be boosted with an extra 10,000 carers online.

Vaccine trials to receive part of £20million coronavirus research investment

Vaccine trials for the coronavirus are among 6 projects to receive a share of £20million.

2 of the 6 projects are focused on vaccination trials and will be the first to benefit from the investment.

The government backed projects will receive new funding for pre-clinical and clinical vaccine trials.

King’s College London researchers launch new symptom tracking app

Researchers at King’s College London have launched a new symptom tracking app aimed to slow the spread of coronavirus.

The new app which tracks symptoms related to novel coronavirus (COVID-19) allows anyone to self-report daily.

Matt Hancock: “Let’s join together at 8pm to thank NHS”

Matt Hancock took to Twitter on Thursday to request the public joined together in the evening to thank everyone in the NHS.

The ‘Clap For Our Carers’ campaign saw the UK public join together in applause on Thursday 26th March at 8pm.

NHS WhatsApp COVID-19 chatbot launched

The Government launched a Coronavirus Information Service through WhatsApp.

The chatbot will provide anyone with trustworthy and timely information about coronavirus.

NHS England is working with the GoodSam app to recruit hundreds of thousands of volunteers, with the latest volunteer target set to 1.4 million.

GoodSAM is the platform powering the on boarding and deployment of the volunteers for the NHS during the Coronavirus crisis.

30 online consultation tools now centrally funded

Over 30 online video tools are now available for GP practices to utilise to deliver online consultations.

There are two frameworks that provide the tools, available through the new emergency Dynamic Purchase framework launched last week and the GP IT Futures framework.

Boris Johnson tests positive for COVID-19

Boris Johnson has tested positive for COVID-19 and is self-isolating within 10 Downing Street.

According to the BBC, there are no plans for any change-over at this stage or for the Prime Minister to temporarily step-down.

Matt Hancock tests positive for COVID-19

The same day Boris Johnson tested positive for COVID-19, Matt Hancock has now also tested positive.

The Health Secretary is now at home and self-isolating.
