The Health Foundation, a UK healthcare charity, has selected four areas to be part of a new programme that will see dedicated hubs created to help organisations adopt innovation.
Through its Adopting Innovation programme, the charity aims to support healthcare providers to create the conditions that will enable “faster and more effective uptake of innovations and improvements”.
Funding of up to £475,000 will be available for each of the four innovation hubs, for two-and-a-half years. The hubs will act as “centres of expertise and support” within provider organisations, according to the charity, to help them and local health systems “become better adopters” and ultimately create “long-lasting impact for patients and staff”.
By building “knowledge, skills and confidence” in healthcare organisations, it’s hoped the hubs will then share their wider learning to “support the effective uptake of innovation”.
The four selected areas are:
- Bradford and Craven Innovation Hub – this will focus on ageing well, anticipatory care, enhanced health in care homes, and urgent community response – to help address increasing health inequalities in Bradford and Craven.
- Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Innovation Hub – the hub will bring together regional innovation, health and care, and academic stakeholders, to understand what drives health inequality and how implementing innovations can help.
- Dorset Innovation Hub – Dorset’s hub will aim to support proven innovations and understand their impact in the local context before they are scaled up, with a focus on the sustainability of innovations, too.
- Manchester Innovation Hub – led by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, this hub will work on improving health outcomes for the diverse population that the trust serves, using digital as the “initial exemplar”.
