Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has received planning approval from Camden Council to build a new hospital in the north London area.
The project is a joint venture between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, and Moorfields Eye Charity.
The plans – known as “Project Oriel” – as well as new artists impressions of the site, have now been published online.
The new hospital will be built on the site of the former St Pancras Hospital, near King’s Cross. Moorfields Eye Hospital will move to the new site from its current home on City Road, while the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, situated on Bath Street, will also relocate to the new building.
David Probert, Chief Executive of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “This is truly a significant milestone for Oriel and the future of patient-centred eye care. The new eye health centre will be a world first and has been designed to accommodate the greatest integration between research and patient care.”

AECOM, Penoyre & Prasad, and White Arkitekter, have been announced as the architects for the new site and work on the building is scheduled to start in September 2022. The Department of Health and Social Care has also given the green light for the plans to redevelop the land, as part of a wider plan to build momentum and improve care.
