Moorfields Eye Hospital appoints new Chair

Laura Wade-Gery has been appointed as the new chair of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, taking up the position in April 2023.

Laura will take over the position from Tessa Green CBE, who is due to step down as Chair in December this year. In the interim, Ross Given-Wilson, current Vice-Chair, will serve as Chair.

Laura, who has previously worked in public and private sectors and is described as bringing “a huge amount of experience”, is the current Chair of NHS Digital. She aims to bring her passion for digital transformation to the trust and has commented, “I am honoured to be joining a world-renowned organisation and its truly exceptional staff.”

She added: “With the roll-out of a new strategy for excellence underway, I am looking forward to playing my part in helping drive forward digital innovation.”

Moorfields NHS Trust is one of the leading providers of eye healthcare services in the UK, and with its academic partners at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology forms one of the largest ophthalmic research sites in the world.

Dr Martin Kuper, Chief Executive at Moorfields, said of the appointment: “I am certain that Laura’s expertise will ensure Moorfields advances at the very cutting edge of eyecare treatment, research and education.”

Kuper also praised Tessa for her work at Moorfields, saying, “I would like to thank her personally for her support, and for her dedication and drive in helping to shape the legacy of Moorfields.”
