New chief strategy and delivery officer and deputy chief exec for Joined Up Care Derbyshire

NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board has appointed Michelle Arrowsmith as their new chief strategy and delivery officer and deputy chief executive.

Having spent the last six years in New Zealand and Australia, Michelle joins the ICB from her post as deputy director general for New Zealand Ministry of Health, which saw her take leadership of 20 district health boards including clinical, operational and financial oversight. During her time abroad, Michelle also provided leadership to a number of healthcare infrastructure projects, including a role a director of clinical operations for a regional health district in Australia and consultancy support for the New Zealand arm of a multinational infrastructure company.

Prior to this, Michelle also worked as chief operating officer for South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust and director of operations at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.

A qualified dietician, Michelle has commented: “As a clinician by background I understand what it’s like to work on the front line and about the importance of hearing the patient and clinical voice in commissioning health services.”

Michelle will be starting her new role in early October.
