Dartford and Gravesham opens MDT complex epilepsy clinic

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust has launched a new multi-disciplinary team clinic for children and young people with complex epilepsy.

Launched last month, the programme led by Dr Chinwe Ude, Consultant Paediatrician with Epilepsy and Neurology special interest, was designed to meet the needs of families dealing with complex epilepsy, with an aim to improve the patient journey and enhance their clinical outcomes. One of the anticipated outcomes is to better support professionals to work closely together and share learnings where possible.

It means children in the clinic will have improved access to tertiary investigations and be supported by tertiary specialist opinions and interventions where needed. The clinic will aim to run 12 sessions a year.

Dr Shan Tang, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist from Evelina Children’s Hospital, said: “I am super proud of my team who are working so hard to keep our Paediatric Epilepsy and Neurology Service (PENS) services going. Suzanne Dyer, our PENS secretary is meticulous and marvellous! And just as marvellous are our Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses, Sarah Buchan-Tigeres and Rebecca Seamons. To top it off, Dr Khanna, my new consultant colleague has joined our mission – it is impressive to see that she has indeed hit the ground running!”

The trust will now measure the impact of the clinic and the improvements in multi-disciplinary working.
