Stephen Posey announced as new CEO for Derby and Burton

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust has appointed a new substantive Chief Executive Officer.

Stephen Posey, the current CEO of Royal Papworth Hospital NHS FT (RPHFT), has been chosen for the role and will join the trust in September 2022.

Acquiring more than 25 years of experience within health and care, Stephen has worked across commissioning, provider and strategic roles and has spent the last five years leading RPHFT.

Throughout his tenure at Royal Papworth, Stephen led efforts to secure funding for the co-located Heart and Lung Research Institute – which will introduce new treatments ‘created, tested and delivered’ to tackle premature death – and delivered the move to a new ‘state-of-the-art’ clinical site on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Dr Kathy McLean OBE, Chair, said: “I’m delighted we have been able to recruit Stephen to the role of Chief Executive Officer. Stephen’s experience and expertise will help us build on our successes as a Trust to date and support the delivery of our strategy to provide exceptional care together and the best outcomes for patients.

“Stephen has a strong track record on delivering both great quality and performance alongside excellent ties with research and academic institutions, something we as a university teaching hospital are continuing to work towards.

“I would like to thank all those involved in the recruitment process, including our Board colleagues and our Council of Governors and partners, for their work in the recruitment process. The Board and I look forward to welcoming Stephen to the Trust in September.”

Stephen Posey said: “It is a real privilege to be joining University Hospitals of Derby and Burton as chief executive. The Trust and its talented, dedicated staff and volunteers serve a vast community and I am very much looking forward to working alongside them and our partners to help deliver the best possible care to our patients.”
