Queen Victoria Hospital appoints new CEO

Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has appointed James Lowell as their new chief executive.

Lowell joins QVH from his role as chief operating officer at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, along with his role as place executive lead for Southwark on the South East London integrated care board. He has also held director roles at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, Medway and Scale Integrated Care Partnership, and Kent and Medway ICS.

Commenting on his appointment, Lowell highlighted the “high level of expertise and a tangible pride in the compassionate care” at QVH, adding that his job is “to work with staff and stakeholders to build on that skill and commitment, working with our partners in order to take the hospital forward”.

The trust’s chair Jackie Smith said that Lowell has “the ability and experience to help us shape our strategic future at the same time as maintaining robust delivery and compassionate care. His values and skills will help us continue to shape our future as a centre of excellence, recognised by patients for our outstanding care and by staff as an excellent place to work.”

Adam Doyle, chief executive of NHS Sussex, commented: “I very much welcome James’ appointment to this role. QVH plays a key part in the wider healthcare system and I am confident that James’ experience and system approach will further strengthen our collaborative working for the benefit of our local population.”
