The NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme has launched a pilot that will take place across Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) in England.
The first year of the pilot has been sponsored by the NHS England and Improvement System Partnerships Team, through the NHS Leadership Academy.
13 trainees in total will take part in the pilot scheme with an aim to give trainees a broader understanding of working across the system and to provide an opportunity to work with providers, commissioners and voluntary, care and social enterprise sectors.
The scheme focuses on capabilities in system working and on developing future system leaders with the relevant skills such as ability to work successfully beyond organisational boundaries, developing relationships and managing complexity.
Mia Doyle, a trainee taking part in the trial scheme, in Gloucestershire, said: “Following a competitive process, I was excited to be given a place on the scheme. Working in the NHS runs in my family, so I am keen to carry the torch and find a place within the organisation and partner organisations where I can make a real difference.
“I’m looking forward to being given a high-quality and varied experience of integrated working across the ICS, leading to a strengthened understanding of operating across the NHS, local government and other partners. While I’m sure working within these different organisations will be challenging, the national team are always on hand to offer support and I’ve also been able to buddy up with a more experienced colleague too.
“It’s through working in these different settings that I know both my skills and confidence will develop, providing me with a sound base to move forward as a senior leader within the NHS or partner organisations.”
